At Cargobase, both Shippers and Providers can benefit from our Container Tracking visibility feature. This article aims to guide you on how to utilize this functionality effectively.
Once an ocean freight shipment has been booked, sharing the container number on the shipment tracking page enables you to track the live status of your shipment. This information allows you to monitor the location and progress of your cargo as it moves through the transportation process.
Where can I add the container number?
To add the container reference, go to the Tracking tab of the shipment that you wish to update.
Click on 'Add Tracking Number' and select 'Container Number'.
Enter the Container Number, followed by the SCAC code and the Bill of Lading (BL).
Select 'Other' if the SCAC code cannot be found.
To find the SCAC code you need, simply enter it in the designated SCAC code field or browse through the list until you locate the specific SCAC code you are searching for.
How would the container tracking updates display?
Once you input a valid container tracking reference, Cargobase will show the tracking milestones on the Tracking page. These milestones will be displayed in a format similar to the example below:

What happens if my container tracking reference is incomplete?
For optimal tracking results, it is advised to input a complete container tracking reference. Refer to the following table for guidance on maximizing the efficiency of Cargobase's container tracking system.

When uploading shipments using only the Container number (without the Bill of Lading), it will provide limited tracking information for the most recent active journey associated with that container. This poses a risk of receiving restricted tracking details, potentially leading to tracking data from a different journey than intended.
If the SCAC field is left empty, our system will make an attempt to verify the correct SCAC. However, if it cannot be determined, tracking data for the shipment may not be available.
